Competency 1 - Policy and Law
Under Minnesota Statutes, section 120B.11, school districts are to develop a World’s Best Workforce (WBWF) Annual Report and report summary for each school year. This summary documents the WBWF student achievement goals that were established the previous year, the strategies and initiatives that the district engaged in to meet the goals, and the subsequent progress made on those goals by the end of the current school year. Districts post their reports on the district website, and submit the summary report to MDE each year. (MDE, 2015)
As a leader in my district, I was given the task by the school superintendent to create the World’s Best Workforce team, draft the documents, and complete the annual reports. One of the most important aspects of implementing initiatives is involving stakeholders in the process. This intensive task has involved stakeholders throughout the community. One of the most valuable aspects of stakeholder involvement is developing relationships with school board members. Each district-level team I have created has involved a variety of stakeholders but always a board member. Leading action teams with board members has given me first-hand experience as to the dynamics, politics, and influences within a board of education.
